Motorcycles & Angeles Crest - One of California's Most Dangerous Roads

Since 1998, 33 motorcyclists have died on Angeles Crest highway, says the LA Times in a recent article about a section of the road that is re-opening after being closed since 2005. I'm actually very familiar with this road, as I live just a few miles away and have driven it many times - both in a car and motorcycle.

However fun, it is a dangerous place for many. According to the LA Times article, it is one of the five most dangerous roads in the country. Not just motorcycle accidents, but cars, trucks, and even bicyclists are frequently injured or killed. Even pedestrians at intersections are at risk from runaway vehicles; a few months ago a semi truck crashed through a building.

Besides mechanical failure and the negligence of drivers, road conditions (both natural and man-made) can be a factor in vehicle accidents. Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorneys Owen Patterson & Owen have handled a case involving wet-paint on the crest causing a rider to slide out. The firm is located in the Santa Clarita Valley which has seen a 30% rise in motorcycle accidents since 2007.
